How do I login to the Label Generator?

If you already have a Label Generator account, click the ‘Login’ button on the top right of your screen. If you don’t yet have a Label Generator account, click here or on the ‘Register’ button on the homepage and start the process to access your account.

How long does it take to get access to my Label Generator account?

It only takes a few minutes for you to request your access. After you have submitted your request, it may take a couple of days for it to be approved. If you urgently need access, please contact your national PEFC member or PEFC International. Find the contact details here.

Why are there two PEFC Label Generators, and which one should I use?

The new PEFC Label Generator produces labels in line with the graphic requirements of the 2020 Chain of Custody and PEFC Trademarks standards. The previous PEFC Label Generator produces labels in line with the previous standards.

Chain of custody certified companies certified to the 2020 Chain of Custody standard should use the new Label Generator. If you are certified to the 2013 Chain of Custody standard, you should use the previous Label Generator. If you are not sure which standard you are certified to, check your chain of custody certificate.

Other trademark users (forest owners, brand owners, etc.) should continue to use the previous Label Generator until contacted by their national PEFC member or PEFC International and invited to use the new Label Generator.

Will the previous version of the Label Generator be updated?

No, the previous Label Generator will not be updated with the new labels. Instead, the new Label Generator will produce labels in line with the 2020 PEFC Trademarks standard.

How do I know what type of PEFC trademarks user I am?

You should be able to find this information on your PEFC trademarks usage licence.

The ‘Other user’ type includes certification and accreditation bodies, non-certified organizations procuring PEFC certified finished products and PEFC international stakeholder members, among others (media, education, research organizations, etc.).

You can also find the classification of PEFC trademark users within section 6.3 of the PEFC Trademarks standard.

How do I get a PEFC trademarks usage licence?

You get a PEFC trademarks usage licence by signing a PEFC trademarks usage contract.

If you have not signed your PEFC trademarks usage contract, you can request the contract using this request form. PEFC International or the PEFC national member in your country will contact you and guide you through the process.

In most cases, the trademarks licence is free.

How do I know which PEFC chain of custody standard we are certified to?

You can find this information on your chain of custody certificate. You will either be certified to the 2020 standard or the 2013 standard. If you are certified to the 2020 standard, you can access the new Label Generator after signing a PEFC trademarks usage contract. If you are certified to the 2013 standard, you should continue to use the previous Label Generator.

How do I get certified to the 2020 Chain of Custody standard?

In order to be certified against the 2020 version of the standards, you will need to adapt your chain of custody management system and procedures to the revised requirements. You will then need to contact a certification body that is able to provide certification services for the 2020 standards, and they will carry out an audit. You can find out more information on the PEFC International website.

When is the transition date for the 2020 Chain of Custody standard?

The transition date is 14 August 2022. Until this date, your audits (both annual and recertification) can continue to be done against the 2013 standard. However, your next audit after this date will need to be against the requirements in the 2020 standard. 13 August 2022 is the last date that you can be audited against the 2013 Chain of Custody standard.

See the PEFC International website for more information.

Why are there two PEFC Label Generators, and which one should I use?

The new PEFC Label Generator produces labels in line with the graphic requirements of the 2020 Trademarks standard. The previous PEFC Label Generator produces labels in line with the previous 2013 standard.

If you are certified to the 2020 standard, you can access the new Label Generator. If you are certified to the 2013 standard, you should continue to use the previous Label Generator. If you are not sure which standard you are certified to, check your chain of custody certificate.

Until when can I use the previous version of the Label Generator?

As a PEFC chain of custody certified company, you will continue to use the previous Label Generator until you are certified to the 2020 Chain of Custody standard. Once you are certified to the 2020 standard you will be given access to the new Label Generator.

The previous Label Generator will remain online until all PEFC trademarks users have access to the new Label Generator.

I need to use the label without the TM, but we are not yet certified to the 2020 standard

We understand that you may need to use the label without the TM before you move to the 2020 Chain of Custody standard. In this case, you can download the label from the previous Label Generator and remove the TM yourself.

Using the PEFC labels

Where can I find information on how to use the PEFC labels?

The PEFC Trademarks standard provides detailed guidance on how to use the PEFC labels. It also includes examples of incorrect usage of the labels.

All labels produced by the PEFC Label Generator are in line with the graphic requirements of the PEFC Trademarks standard. It is important that you don’t edit or modify the labels after downloading them from the Label Generator.

If you have any questions about your label usage, you can contact the national PEFC member in your country or PEFC International. Find the contact details here.

How do I know what type of PEFC labels I can use?

Your Label Generator account will only enable you to produce labels that you are allowed to use. If you can create the label through your account, you can use it. However, you should read the PEFC Trademarks standard to ensure that you are using the labels correctly.

Can I change the PEFC labels after downloading them?

All labels produced by the PEFC Label Generator are in line with the graphic requirements of the PEFC Trademarks standard. It is important that you don’t edit or modify the labels after downloading them from the Label Generator.

If you need to change the label in any way, such as changing the colour or removing the licence number, you need to ask for approval. You can ask for approval directly through your Label Generator account.

Why can’t I download a label without the licence number?

The PEFC label should always be used with the licence number, as it enables everyone to identify the PEFC trademarks licence holder.

However, you can request to use the trademarks without the licence number if it is not technically feasible to place the licence number on the product, or the licence number is not readable. In both cases, the PEFC label must either be used together with the licence number elsewhere on the same product, or the licensee is identifiable through alternative means elsewhere on the product.

You can request to use the PEFC label without the licence number through your Label Generator account.

Why can’t I download a label without the TM yet?

The label without the TM is only available from the new Label Generator. If you are still using the original Label Generator, you should continue to use the label with the TM.
